Nightline is intended for users over the age of 18.
If you are under 18, we recommend services such as Childline.

We are devastated to hear about the tragic passing of UoB student Joseph Derbisz. All of us at Birmingham Nightline are sending our deepest love and sympathy to all of Joe’s friends and family.

We can appreciate that this is heartbreaking news even for those who didn’t know Joe personally, and we hope that everyone is able to access support in whatever way they need in this difficult time. As always, we are here for you; our IM service is open 8pm-1am every night, and our email service is open 24/7, should you wish to reach out. You can find our contact information here: https://birmingham.nightline.ac.uk/contact-us/.

There is also a non-exhaustive list of resources and other helplines on our website, including specific bereavement support: https://birmingham.nightline.ac.uk/resources/

If you would like to read the university’s official statement, you can find it here:

We hope everybody knows they do not have to go through this alone; please reach out to the resources and support available to you, whenever you need.

Take care 💙
